Moving onto the second and the third cross-cultural sharing, College of Liberal Arts’ recent EMI Cross-cultural Series took us on a whirlwind tour of fascinating cultures of France and German.
Our journey began with Ms. Aurore Ludivine Oceane Servant-Casisava from Aix-Marseille Université. Firstly, Aurore introduced us to the enchanting southern region of Provence. This charming area offers a delightful alternative to bustling Paris, with a relaxed vibe perfect for soaking in the French way of life while pursuing academic research.
Next, we were joined by Mr. Henry Kretschmer from Goethe University Frankfurt. Henry shed light on Germany’s unique position as a vibrant international hub within the European Union. His presentation went beyond the iconic landscapes, delving into the fascinating world of the German language. Henry made learning German fun by comparing some words to Mandarin Chinese such as “yein,” “Kater,” and “Nervensäge.”
Aurore and Henry totally blew our minds with their presentations! They gave us a peek into the awesomeness of their cultures. From captivating local dialects to intriguing language comparisons, they sparked a lively discussion about the beauty and complexities of cross-cultural understanding. It was a truly enriching experience for all those who attended!
CLA EMI Cross-cultural Series serves as a vibrant platform for global engagement. These events encourage us to embrace diversity, appreciate different ways of life, and foster connections across borders. Stay tuned for future events where we can embark on more exciting cultural adventures together…we’ll see you next semester!
