Dean of College of Liberal Arts Chern Chiou Lan, Prof. Chang Su Bing from the Graduate Institute of Taiwan History, Associate Professor Joy Wu from English Department, Associate Professor Lin Hsin Yi from History Department visited New Zealand in February for a cooperation with institutes of indigenous studies and the agreement signing with Auckland University of Technology.<\/div>\n

Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a university in New Zealand, formed on 1 January 2000 when a former technical college (originally established in 1895) was granted university status. It has five faculties across three campuses in Auckland: City, North, and South campuses, and an additional three specialist locations: AUT Millennium, Warkworth Radio Astronomical Observatory and AUT Centre for Refugee Education. Manager of the AUT Chinese Center Marlene Lu gave a tour of the modern campus. Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean, Professor Pare Keiha, International Programs Manager Mr. Kenneth Holt, Director of International Relations and DevelopmenMr. Lester Khoo\u3001Head of School(LANG & CULTURE); Deputy Dean (Research) Associate Professor Sharon Harvey welcomed the representatives from NTNU.<\/div>\n

Pare Keiha firstly greeted the professors of NTNU. AUT is open to the establishment of an exchange program. Dean Chen talked about the goal of this visit and the professors briefly introduced how their studies are related to indigenous studies and further explained our advantages.<\/div>\n
Dean Pare Keiha and Dean Chern Chiou Lan signed the MOU and exchange gifts. The gift from AUT is adorned with Maori symbols. Prof. Keiha expalined that Hei Matau, the fish hook is for good fortune, peace and health. Infinity\/Twist is for eternity and bond. Koru (the unfurling frond) is for harmony and new hope.<\/div>\n

NTNU is the first school that started an exchange program with the Faculty of Culture and Society. Dean Chern invited them to come to NTNU for a visit. In the afternoon, a Maori ceremony was held to welcome the international students. The professors were all impressed with the performance.<\/div>\n
