【Event Hightlights】Visit by the University of Bristol Delegation from England

On the morning of November 30th, we hosted a meaningful discussion with a distinguished delegation from the University of Bristol, consisting of Prof. Natalie J Edwards, Dr. Claire Knight and Ms. Susanna Batten. The focus of the meeting centered on exploring opportunities related to the Dual Degree Agreement and potential academic collaborations. Our distinguished delegation was warmly received by our Dean, Prof. Wen-Wei Shiu, Chair of Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation, Prof. Daniel Hu, Administrative Assistant, Ms. Carol Ming, and the translator, Ms. Hung-Yu Liu.

Professor Natalie Edwards who is from the Department of French and is the Head of School (School of Modern Language), shared with us the recent Dual Degree model implemented in the UK Masters program. Meanwhile, Dr. Claire Knight, who is in charge of the Centre for Study Abroad, provided us with valuable insights on the further discussion of the MOU and SEA. She also suggested that we can collaborate with their post-graduate programs, including Chinese-English Translation, Comparative Literatures and Culture, etc. In addition, Ms. Susanna representing Global Engagement at the International Office introduced the Dual 1+1 system and proposed some customized options, tailored to our specific needs, such as 1+1+1 system.

During the discussion, our Dean provided an overview of the current Taiwan Studies Program, which has received large-scale government funding, and emphasized the expectation of attracting more overseas scholars and graduate students to visit NTNU and promoting more international academic exchanges. However, he also admitted that there may be some challenges between schools in the UK and Taiwan when signing up to the Dual Degree Agreement. He expressed hope that through this visit, both sides could deepen their exchanges and encourage more students from the University of Bristol to come to NTNU to conduct research and study for master’s degrees.
