Feeling overwhelmed by those IELTS writing charts? We got your back! On May 1st, College of Liberal Arts hosted the second session of their Proficiency Test Lecture Series: Mastering IELTS Writing Task 1. Led by Mr. Emile Lin who has been teaching in many universities around the city, on acing IELTS writing Task 1, the lecture provided a roadmap to help students ace those tricky graphs. Mr. Lin, an experienced IELTS instructor, has extensive experience helping students achieve high scores on this proficiency test. The event was organized by Mr. David Wei Hung Wu, the EMI project coordinator.
Mr. Lin kicked things off by diving into line graphs. He unpacked the key verbs used and equipped students with essential patterns for describing trends. After that, he started to introduce bar chart. Here, the focus shifted to mastering comparisons and contrasts, along with identifying common mistakes to avoid. The last section was pie chart where Mr. Lin shared effective strategies for describing multiple sections.
While time constraints limited the session to these three chart types (remember, there’s more to explore in IELTS Task 1!), the lecture generated a buzz of excitement. Everyone seemed to find it valuable, gaining a solid foundation for tackling writing graphs.
But wait, there’s more! College of Liberal Arts will be hosting another session (the final one) focusing on Task 2 on May 8th. Stay tuned for updates and follow them on Instagram @cla_emi_program to stay in the loop!
